Annual Pacific Beach Block Party... Saturday, May 14, 2005
- 9am-6pm
Article written by Kristel Boe
What began in 1976 as just a 2 block neighborhood gathering
with a handful of local performers has evolved over the years
into a major festival. The 2005 Pacific Beach block party
marks the 30th year of operation and is sure to draw crowds.
The festival itself runs along Garnet Avenue from Ingraham
to Mission Blvd. The block party will include over 500 arts,
crafts and commercial vendors, as well as seventy five food
vendors who participate in the International Food Court. With
lots of sights and sounds to enjoy, the best part about the
festival is that it is free and open to the public!
Not only is the PB block party an amazing experience for all
who attend, but the community of Pacific Beach will directly
benefit from this event. The block party will donate all proceeds
to a variety of community groups as the PB Town Council, Historical
Society, Lions Clubs, and a variety of schools in the area.
This alone makes spending a few extra dollars on a bottle
of water clearly worth it!
One of the greatest attractions at the block party is the
Music Festival that sets the tone for the beach party. This
year their will be 6 outdoor music stages consistently playing
music throughout the day. The musical talent will feature
a variety of performers and sounds including rock, reggae,
and dance music.
Because Garnet boasts some of the greatest bars and clubs
in San Diego, the crowd is sure to be lively. What most don’t
discuss is the fact that the block party festivities expand
beyond the designated streets. For those ready to mingle and
party with locals, house parties keep the festivities going
throughout the night.
Be sure to check out this years rocking block party Saturday
May 14th, from 9am-6pm. Parking is always difficult in PB,
so take advantage of carpooling or cruise through on a bike.
